Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter, actress businesswoman, philanthropist, and actress most well-known for her work in the field of country music. Parton's popularity as a songwriter prompted her to make her debut album in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly. It was followed by a run of great success throughout the 1960s both as an individual artist as well as in an album series featuring Porter Wagoner, before she achieved her highest sales in the 1970s and into the 1980s. While her 1990s albums were not well-received however, she did achieve commercial success in the new millennium. She has since released albums on several independent labels which include Dolly Records. Parton has sold over 100 million records across the world. Her music has been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America, (RIAA), as platinum, gold, and multi-platinum. She has had 25 tracks make it to no. one on the Billboard charts for country music an all-time record for a female singer (tied with Reba McEntire).
