Mariah Carey (/m@'raI@/; born March 27, 1969) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" and "Queen of Christmas" She is renowned for her vocal range of five octaves as well as her melismatic vocal style and trademark use of the whistle register and the songwriting. Carey became an international star through her debut album. Carey was the first artist to have her first five singles go to the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100. These were "Vision of Love" and "Emotions". Carey was married to Tommy Mottola three years later. Carey had more success with her albums Music Box (1993), Merry Christmas (1994), and Daydream (1995), with singles like "Hero", "Without You", "All I Want for Christmas Is You", "Fantasy", "Always Be My Baby" as well as "One Sweet Day", which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 decade-end chart (1990s). Carey changed his look after splitting from Mottola and added more hip-hop elements to Butterfly (1997).
