 Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born on the 17th of June, 1987) is an American artist and rapper. He is well-known for his progressive music style and his socially conscious songwriting. Lamar was born in Compton, California and began his career performing as K.Dot as a teenager. After receiving a lot of attention locally and a record deal with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2005. He also became an original member of the hip-hop supergroup Black Hippy. In 2011, he released his first album Section.80, a conscious hip-hop album. The album received favorable reviews and featured the debut single "HiiiiPower". In 2012, Lamar secured a record contract with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, under the supervision of Interscope Records, and released his second studio album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. The album, heavily influenced by West Coast and Gangsta Rap it was met with widespread commercial and critical acclaim. It also featured the singles "Swimming Pools(Drank)" and "Swimming Pools ("Drank")".
