Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19th, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter, actress as well as philanthropist and businesswoman most well-known for her contributions to the field of country music. After achieving success as a music writer for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly, that led to success over the rest of the 1960s (both as an individual artist as well as with an album of duets with Porter Wagoner), before her peak sales and chart position began in the 1970s, and continued through the 1980s. Although Parton's 1990s albums did not sell well but she was able to make commercial success during the new millennium. She has since released albums on several independent labels such as Dolly Records. She has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.Parton's music is Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)-certified platinum, gold, and multi-platinum awards. She has had 25 songs make it to no. She reached No. 1 on Billboard's country music charts and set a record for a female singer (tied to Reba McEntire).
