Matthew Burton Brown, born 10 January 1981, is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the Welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. A professional competitor since 2004 Brown was one of the contestants in the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter television series and holds the current record for the most knockouts recorded in UFC Welterweight history.Brown was born and raised in Jamestown, Ohio. After attending homeschool for two years, he attended Greeneview High School, where the school was not a place he felt at home. Living in a small town with no foreseeable future outside of the low-paying factory job as a machinist Brown became frustrated and began turning to drugs and alcohol. In the beginning that lasted for a while, he was dependent on meth, frequently consuming cocaine and would often get into fights with friends at parties. In his early twenties He had been afflicted with an overdose of heroin, which earned him the nickname "The Immortal", was homeless and sent to prison. Brown began to become interested in MMA after he began to practice submission holds while drinking. He had watched Ken Shamrock's VHS tapes of his friends and was inspired to pursue MMA.
