 In an effort to find the right combination of players to enable them to reach the playoffs, some MLB teams have committed millions of dollars. There are a few teams signing huge contracts to get the best players in baseball for a long time. To aid the team to get back to the promise land the front office sunk over $100 million to a pitching addition (Jordan Zimmerman), but they knew that this wouldn't be enough.They needed some more offense to compete, so they took the plunge and put in $132.75 million in a new six-year deal to Justin Upton. Last season Upton's numbers weren't the best when playing in San Diego's pitcher friendly park (.251 BA 26 RBIs, 81 homers) However, they did not drop much from his previous year when he played at Atlanta (.270 BA, 29 RBIs, 102 home runs which is a career-high). The Tigers are likely to be betting on him being able to achieve similar or better numbers at their park.
