 Minions: The Rise of Gru, also known as Minions 2, is an American computer-animated comedy film which was released by Universal Pictures in 2022. The sequel follows Minions, the spin-off prequel to Minions (2015) as well as the fifth overall entry in the Despicable Me franchise. It was written and directed by Kyle Balda, co-directed by Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val and was produced by Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy and Chris Renaud, from a screenplay written by Matthew Fogel, and a script written by Fogel and Brian Lynch. Steve Carell plays the role of Gru, Pierre Coffin, Taraji P. Henson and Michelle Yeoh play supporting roles. In the film, an eleven-year-old Gru will become a supervillain through the help of his Minions and leads to a showdown with a malevolent team, the Vicious 6.After being delayed for two years due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Minions: The Rise of Gru was released worldwide for its debut at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 13, 2022 and was theatrically released in the United States on July 1 on July 1, 2022, by Universal Pictures.
