 Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), known professionally as Eminem (/,emI'nem/; stylized as EMIN3M), is an American musician and rapper. The popularity of hip-hop is well-known and he's recognized as one of the most powerful rappers of the past. Eminem's global success and highly acclaimed works are widely considered to have broken down racial barriers that prevented white rappers from being recognized in popular music. Though his sexy work of the late 1990s and early 2000s rendered him controversial, he eventually came to be a representation of popular angst of the American classless and has been cited as an influence on many artists across genres.After the release of his debut album Infinite (1996) and the extended version of Slim Shady EP (1997), Eminem signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment and subsequently achieved the mainstream spotlight in 1999 with the release of The Slim Shady LP. His next two albums, The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) and The Eminem Show (2002) were his second.
