Mary-Louise Parker was born August 2, 1964. She is an American actress. Following her Broadway debut as Rita in Craig Lucas' Prelude to a Kiss in 1990 (for which she received a Tony Award nomination), Parker came to prominence for film roles in Grand Canyon (1991), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), The Client (1994), Bullets over Broadway (1994), A Place for Annie (1994), Boys on the Side (1995), The Portrait of a Lady (1996) and The Maker (1997). Between the stage and independent film roles later on, Parker received the 2001 Tony Award for Best Actress in the same Play for her portrayal as Catherine Llewellyn in David Auburn's Proof in addition to other awards. Between 2001 between 2001 and 2006, she was a regular in the role of Amy Gardner in the NBC television series The West Wing, for which she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in the Drama Series in 2002. For her role in the role of Harper Pitt in HBO's acclaimed miniseries Angels in America, she received both a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.
